Christmas in July Fundraising Event, 3rd July 2009: Stamford Grand North Ryde invites NRMPCC members to “Deck the Halls at the Christmas in July Dinner” Proudly supporting Royal Rehabilitation Centre, Sydney. The fundraising event will be held on the 3rd July from 7pm. Tickets are selling for $95 per person which includes welcome cocktail, traditional Christmas dinner, selected wines, guest speaker, live entertainment and novel Christmas Tree auction. Business Achiever Awards, 22nd July 2009: Tickets are now available for the Northern District Times 2009 Business Achiever Awards. The Awards will be held at the Epping Club on Wednesday 22nd July 2009. Tickets are $90 per person and can be booked online by clicking here. Make sure you buy your tickets soon, as the event is quite popular and often sells out.

Small Business Survey: The Northern District Times, along with a number of interstate newspapers, has developed an online survey designed to construct an understanding of key issues faced by entrepreneurs and small business leaders . The data will be used to compare how Sydney is performing against small businesses in other states. The survey takes about 20 mins to complete and participants have the chance to win an advertising package worth $10,400. The survey will be conducted bi-annually to develop an understanding of changing business issues. To become involved visit smesurvey.myyardstick.com, the survey closes July 6.
Plea for more Epping parking: Hornsby Councillor Michael Hutchence has started a petition to lobby the State Government to act on the problem of commuter parking in Epping. Cr Hutchence claims the parking should be funded by the State Government rather than local council because he doesn’t believe that rate payers should have to pay when people from other areas will use the parking too. Cr Hutchence is gathering support from surrounding councils including Willoughby, Baulkham Hills and Ryde Council and is hoping to collect 20,000 signatures by the end of his campaign. Petitions are now available at businesses throughout northwest Sydney including the Epping Community Centre on Oxford Street.
New Foot Bridge: The roads and traffic authority is planning to build a $3.5 million footbridge over Epping Road, near Vimiera Road. It aims to enable pedestrians, cyclists and in particular Epping Boys High School students to cross Epping Road safely and conveniently. Critics of the footbridge revolves around the cost and the lack of community consultation. Construction is scheduled to start in late 2009 and completed by 2010.
Land for new substation: Epping is said to need a new electricity substation by 2015. Integral Energy has approached a number of landholders in the area to look for suitable land. However, at this stage the spokesperson for the power group said no decisions had been made on a preferred site.
Epping to Chatswood link numbers down: RailCorp has reported a drop in the number of people using the Epping to Chatswood rail link since the free travel period ended on June 8. A spokesperson for RailCorp said they were confident that original numbers of 12,000 will be reached again once the link is integrated into the city rail network on October 11. It was also announced by NSW Transport Minister David Campbell that Thiess Hochtief Joint Venture had agreed to meet the costs of fixing noise problems in the tunnel by installing noise absorption panels amongst other things.
