Macquarie University AFL _ invitation attached - message from their
president
I am the president of the Macquarie University AFL club which is based in
the University Grounds. We are a non for profit club playing the Sydney AFL
competition, we have just joined forces with the GO Foundation which is the
trust of Adam Goodes and Michael O'loughlin form the Swans to raise money
and awareness for indigenous kids. We are hosting a business lunch that we
would hope would be supported by the Macquarie business park people, as this
event then will become a yearly event.
The lunch is being held at the Stamford Grand on the 23rd February from
12.30pm to 3.00pm and we would like to gain some support from the chamber in
marketing this out to your data base.
The Foundation will be focused on providing sustainable outcomes -
encouraging healthy living, a good education, and ultimately leading to
getting a career
- To promote understanding and awareness of the Indigenous community in
Australia within the non-Indigenous business community.
- To provide the Corporate sector with a means by which to engage with
Indigenous communities.
- To provide Indigenous communities with a means by which to engage with
the Corporate sector.
Michael O'Loughlin - Why am I doing this?
As a kid I dreamt of being a professional athlete. When I was given the
opportunity, I grabbed it with both hands, and I haven't looked back since.
I have spent the last 15 years playing sport at an elite level. It has
provided my family and I with numerous opportunities, and afforded us a
great lifestyle.
I've always done my bit to give something back to the community, working as
a Centrelink Ambassador, with NASCA, Dare To Lead, the Books in Homes
Programme and a number of other really positive social initiatives. I am
absolutely passionate about these things, and take a lot of pride from
working with communities & underprivileged people.
Having recently announced my retirement from footy at the end of the 2009
season, I've now got the time and energy to focus on this passion, and feel
as if the best way forward is to establish my own Foundation with Goodesy,
in support of all of these programs. Having our own Foundation will also
enable us to create and drive our own programs, and give other Indigenous
Australians the opportunity to Live the Dream.
Thanks for all your support,
Michael O'loughlin

North Ryde/Macquarie Park Chamber of Commerce (NRMPCC) holds monthly "North Ryde After Hours" events on the third Tuesday of every month (except January). These events, which run from 5.30 - 7.00 pm, give members and guests the opportunity to meet other business people from the district, and also discover the products and services of the member hosting the event.
In addition, the Chamber hosts or co-hosts regular Business Breakfasts, where members and guests have the opportunity to hear specialist speakers on a range of business-related topics.
NRMPCC also holds business luncheons with keynote speakers during the year. With so much happening in the North Ryde/Macquarie Park area, in terms of growth and new businesses, our events are growing in size rapidly. We hope to see you at one soon!
